Vaud

is a canton in the west of Switzerland. The capital city is Lausanne and the official language is French. The area of ​​the canton extends from Lake Geneva in the south to Neuchatel Lake in the north. Neighboring cantons are Geneva, Friborg, Neuchatel, Bern and Wallis. Part of the canton is part of the Swiss Alps. There are Diableret Glacier and several popular ski resorts such as Les Diablerets and Leysin.

From the wine point of view, the canton Vaud is the second most important wine region in Switzerland. The area from Lausanne to the Montreaux Riviera, guarantees a wonderful show for all lovers of fine wine. Lavaux is a wine-growing region whose terraced slopes have been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007. The terraced fields on the sunny southern slopes began to originate here as early as the 12th century, and wine was grown here in ancient Rome. The wines are included in the Appellations d’Origine Contrôlée, AOC. Another important wine region is the Chablais AOC, where the Mondial du Chasselas international competition takes place every year at Château d´Aigle.

In terms of tourism, it is worth visiting le Château de Chillon, which is the most visited historic building in Switzerland. The Fête des Vignerons (FEVI) festival takes place every year in Vevey, about which you can read more in the section of the 21st century.
